I did it! I deleted all my pin boards!

I was starting to be not as hooked as I have been on Pinterest. It's easy to find yourself lost among thousands of images and just crazily pinning without seeing where the link actually points (you may have heard all the discussions about copyright violations... ). Also, I realized I don't want to spend so much time online to find inspiration!

So I'm very happily back to my magazine clippings- to me, a more relaxed way to be inspired indeed!

Don't you just love second- hand book shops? There's something so special in them, especially those quaint little shops in the Cotswolds I love so much. The overall atmosphere, all the knowledge on the old shelves, the smell of the yellowed pages, the forgotten treasures ready to be discovered... I'd spend hours in there!

What about you? Do you stop if you bump into one?

I've been asked how to make a collaged blog banner, and thought to respond here just in case someone else is interested. I tend to often take things I know for granted, but they're not. My apologies.

Many of us already know that our beloved Picnik is closing down on April, 19. But some of my readers never heard of it before... Picnik, with its easy and intuitive photo editing tools, has been a great online support for bloggers, and we are all mourning now that it won't be available anymore. But there's still time, if you want to play and make your blog more inviting, to make banners and collages and stockpile them for future use. All their Premium features are available for free until April, 19. So hurry up!

You can find a well- written tutorial on how to make a blog banner on Claudia's blog, here. Even if I discourage you from replicating someone else's style, even in making a blog banner, which definitely is a form of presentation and tells the world who you are, there are really many tools on Picnik and you can play around ending up with something totally you. Have fun!

Map Wrap and Spring Banner.

Happy Monday dear friends!

As promised, here are close ups of my map wrap. The sturdiness of this paper allows to wrap to perfection, and what an unusual gift to receive, don't you think?

I made coordinated tags and clothespins...

... cards and envelopes! To make the envelope, I used a store- bought one as template. I added twine to close, but you can use glue as well. Little scraps were used to embellish the card.

Felted Mug Hug.

Do you want to play in the weekend? :)

I'd been wanting mug hugs for a while. Some months ago I had tried to make one from old sweaters, but as the edges continued to fray, and after I had tried a variety of remedies that didn't please me at all, I gave up and let my project 'breathe'.

Then the other day, while I was doing something completely different, I thought that obviously I had to felt the wool before proceeding! And the result was perfect! The cut edges are neat and clean, see? And my mug hug so soft to handle.

If you want to play around, start felting old sweaters using your washing machine (hot setting). Use only pure wool, mohair, angora etc because acrylic fibers don't work. Hang on the line or tumble dry. You may need to repeat the process in some cases.

When you have felted the wool, you can make a mug hug.

1. Cut a stripe of the desired size/length- try it to be sure! Add about 2.5 cm./1" of seam allowance. Fold your stripe and pin, right sides together. It must fit the mug ok.

2. Turn inside out.

3. Start sewing by hand with tiny invisible stitches. This will require a few minutes only.

4. Turn once again inside out and sew a couple of buttons on the front. I used tiny, cute, wooden heart buttons, that costed me more than the sweaters! :( But I didn't break the bank :)

I made two for hubby and me, now planning on making some more, also as Christmas gifts- I hate to run :)

Some days it's so difficult to fly- too many tasks to accomplish, so little time, we're tired, we aren't that well, thoughts, things to be done flood our minds... but there's no better way to hold on than being positive!

I put onto canvas what I keep telling to myself: don't worry, don't care... just flap your wings and fly- the wind will be with you! It's my teenie- weenie bit of inspiration for you today.

Lilac Apron.

This apron didn't make it to the pages of Apronology, but I really love it, so I'm showing to you here on my blog!

I tried to keep the design very simple yet striking. I transferred a vintage image on fabric and framed it with a patchwork of wonderful coordinated fabrics in lilac (you may remember other things I made in this color I love, here and here and here).

This vintage girl is so cute, don't you think?

A small collection of vintage buttons finishes it off...

... together with a big bow on the rear!

I think it's so spring-y, can't wait to use it!... Actually, can't wait for Spring to arrive!

Studio Peeks.

Being a professional artist means never a dull moment (as my agent Linda says!). It also means you work hard, and have to split your creative energy into several programs at the same time. It means you must be willing to also work on art that is requested to you, not necessarily what you thought/wanted to paint... this might be challenging at times, but having devoted my entire life to creativity, I've learnt with experience that if we just let ideas rest for a while, allowing the project to 'breathe' like good wine, eventually we may come up with unexpected, wonderful ideas, fulfilling for our creative soul!

Some of you are waiting to see what I am painting... You know I'm grateful for your support! My blog not only opened up to me a new world of possibilities, but also gave me a fantastic group of lovely friends cheering me on from all over the world! :) Thank. you. I'm really grateful you are there for me! Unfortunately, in this licensing world, sharing is a tricky subject (such a shame)... buuut, even if I cannot show you my designs until they are published, I can show you sneak peeks!

Since before Christmas, I've been producing new collections, some of which were firstly introduced to clients at the Atlanta Gift Show last January.

I was really thrilled with the response about my art, and now I'm working even harder on several new programs. One of which is very demanding, but what a joy to work on! Hope I can share more soon.

This post gives me the opportunity to also show you where I am working at the moment. My old followers and readers know that I moved to a temporary address last year, after my husband and I sold our house in Italy to pursue our dream of a new life.

So I changed from working in a pretty and organized studio room to having but a table in the living room... and mess everywhere! This has been probably the most challenging part of this adventure.

I have piles of boxes and (evergrowing) things in every corner of the house!

But the lack of a studio room doesn't keep me from creating and making art every single day!

I even tried my best to embellish a bit and organize this small space I'm blessed with.

Either working in a studio or in the living room, I always have fresh flowers on my worktable! Always.

Odd as it may seem, I'm in full Christmas swing at the moment! I'm creating new designs for Surtex in New York City next May! Wish me luck ;)

My Valentine...

... is my #1 fan, my greatest supporter, my love! He bears everyday with the craziness of my being an artist, and never complains for my bombarding him with never-ending creative ideas, or if things out of the blue change color or place all around our home, if I call the doggie 'love' too, if I put a 'keep off' sign on my studio door and disappear in there for endless hours, if I order his clothes by color in the wardrobe or scream when he sits too close to one of my precious antique linen and lace pillows... and also accepts to pose for my photographs with a smile when I ask ;)

... I'm so grateful I have him by my side!

Thinking Valentine's Day #6

If you haven't thought of a cute wrapping idea for your Valentine's Day gifts yet, you can consider making these super-quick and easy cotton bags I designed last year for Somerset Holidays and Celebrations (current issue). These can be used for any occasion actually...

Adorable images from vintage postcards, transferred to muslin, are then freely sewn on the bags, and embellished with MOP buttons and a sentiment handstamped on muslin as well. Note I purposely used creased, tired cotton for the sachets, that adds to the homespun look I was after.

These below can be the cutest addition to a present for a birthday, a 'just because' gift, Mothers Day, etc.

I like to have one always on hand, for last- minute wrapping. Consider making a batch for different occasions throughout the year, even with colored fabrics.

Embracing Joyful Simplicities #2- Organizing Pretty.

Pretty and practical- do you know a better pair?

An old ring binder and ugly complimentary daily planner have become inseparable companions of my organization. And make me even like to do something boring at times!

I already blogged about the ring binder I transformed into a neat organizer with a tartan cover and rosettes here.

Now I made another linen cover for a complimentary daily planner (that being complimentary, wasn't my taste at all! But as I embrace my Granny's phylosophy "waste not, want not"... ). It's similar to the book cover with a 'French- feel' I made for a friend a while back.

Hope this inspires you. To me, it's such a joyful little pleasure to surround myself with pretty things, especially if I can have them without breaking the bank.

In Green Craft Magazine: Garden Chic!

As a keen gardener, I love anything garden related... and I do love to receive gardening books, sets or accessories as gifts! I've been collecting empty pill bottles to store seeds from my annual plants since I started to find great joy in gardening, whether I did that on a balcony or when I've been so blessed to own a huge garden in the country.

This month in Green Craft, you can find my article about turning plastic medicine bottles into chic gardening accessories.

I also made a garden journal and cute plant signs to complete the set.

My card accompanying my work has been published too, even if I was surprised as my writing wasn't perfect- I must admit that got me down a bit, because you know I put much time and energy in always improving my knowledge of English each and every day... but being not my first language, I'm well aware it goes out of the window when I'm very tired or stressed! That was the case last summer, when I was facing problems about our move, my health etc. (Just for fun, I don't call 'laundry sheets' that way, I improperly call them 'washing-machine towels' both in English and Italian :))). But the sadness lasted only a few moments, because I was tremendously proud when I re- read my article, and really loved how it turned out- even doubted I had written it myself! Does this happen to you too?

Now, just waiting for Spring to sow some seeds. Seriously, can't wait... can't wait!

Thinking Valentine's Day #5- Handmade Cards and Valentines.

There's still plenty of time to send Valentines to your sweetheart and your girlfriends to tell how much you love them...♥ Even if you're not inclined to celebrate St. Valentine's Day, you may consider sending a card anyway to tell them how important they are to you!

This year, I came up with these two ideas for quick handmade cards.

I made the first batch (that can be used either as 'non traditional' Valentines or throughout the year as 'just because' card) using my own photographs, printed on matte paper, cut and glued onto a polka dotted cardboard, simply cut and folded in half. I added a second plain red cardboard to 'frame' the image. The envelopes are made out of kraft paper, using a ready-made envelope as template.

I inserted a sheet of recycled paper inside the cards, so I could write my message or love letter...

The second type have been made using copies of vintage postcards from my extensive collection of Valentines...

I enclosed a little felt heart into each one, together with words of love and friendship.

All the envelopes have been embellished on the outside too, with a heart covered with adhesive tape.

DO tell the important people in your life you love them!!

Painting has such a healing power! Not only it relaxes deeply and gives joy, but scientific studies have proven that Art works even on the physiology of an individual, affecting brain wave patterns, neurotransmitters, the immune system, blood flow and hormonal balance. Art also heals as a form of expression of the subconcious mind, revealing the emotions we're not able to express verbally or aren't ready to face consciously. What's even more beautiful, Art can be healing for the creator of it and for those who view it at the same time.

I'm more than happy to share this painting with you... Maybe you too can find healing and inspiration in it.

Thinking Valentine's Day #4

After I started making wreaths with twigs last December, I just had to challenge myself and make heart- shaped ones for Valentine's Day!!

Here's the result... I am in ♥

Wanna know my secret? ;))

I cut it, removed the hook and made a heart with the help of pliers. I secured it with thinner florist wire, then started making a circle with my twigs, I 'pinned' in the centre of the heart and on its tip with other twigs. Then proceeded like I did for the round wreaths. This additional step helped me to work freely without the twigs slipping out of my hands.

I cannot say this is simple for a beginner crafter, but it's totally doable with a bit of practice. When harvesting twigs, be sure to choose the smaller ones, which are the most flexible.

... Isn't it awesome to make things from scratch?

Inspired by it, I want to start another series of inspirational posts here on my blog... let's bring contentment to our lives by embracing joyful simplicities all year round!

Today, I share with you something that makes me happy- stop for a while (even in the middle of hundreds of "must-dos"), curl up on the sofa with one of my journals (this gorgeous one made especially for me by my dear friend Louise, which adds to the happiness and comfort), a hot cuppa and woolen wrist warmers, enjoying the ray of sunshine that's kissing my face through the window panes...

In Somerset Life.

I finally received my copy of Somerset Life, where my work is published once again. Thanks from the heart to all the kind ladies that made this possible and worked hard to give us all such a wonderful issue of the magazine!

I have been asked to share with their readers my vintage portable studio. ... I was delighted!

I've been a fan of newspaper as free supply for gift- wrapping for a long time... here is my article about that with some ideas for you.

And much to my surprise, I found these map- wrapped gifts I had sent to the Editor-in-Chief to say thank you are featured too! :)) I told you vintage maps are my latest obsession... ;) Maybe will show close ups of these in another post someday, should you fancy to borrow the idea.

Finally, I also contributed to the Miscellany section with two of my shots. Sorry the vintage camera belonged to my Grandfather is on another page- I'm happy to have my family heirloom among things that inspire.

Treat yourself to this issue if you haven't yet. My talented friends Abby and Michelle are in too, with fabulous creations!

Thinking Valentine's Day #1

Happy Monday everyone! As February 14 is just around the corner, I prepared some Valentine- inspired posts. Mini projects and creative ideas I hope you'll like!

When it's mid January, I start itching for Spring, and love having forced bulbs and primroses potted all around my home... The other day my Mom presented me a couple of hyacinths, I removed them from their ugly plastic containers, and arranged in upcycled jam jars. I added a few creative touches like a love label and wooden hearts... aren't they cute?

Found this old gardening book last week, and had to bring it home with me. Every keen gardener needs a very vintage gardening book, right?:)

I thought you may like to make these too, to treat yourself to a bit of Spring or to give. You can make them with your kids too, they'll love them.

Materials needed:

- forced bulbs

- jam jars (I used Bonne Maman because they have a wide- mouth opening that allows the bulb to be inserted without any damage)

- jute ribbon

- bakers twine (or ribbon, any kind)

- hearts (any type)

- lollipop sticks

- hot glue gun

- chalkboard paint (or black paint)

- scissors

- brush

Instructions:

1. Wrap the jam jar in jute ribbon and baker's twine (or ribbon). You can add a heart if you want.

2. Remove the bulb from the plastic pot, and put delicately in the jar, without damaging the root ball. Leave about 1 in (2 cm) at the bottom of the jar.

3. Paint the lollipop stick with chalkboard paint, attach the heart with a dab of hot glue, and write 'love' on it. Insert in the root ball.

4. Add a bit of water.

5. Enjoy!

One Book a Month-#2 "New Farmhouse Style".

I promised to share one book a month from my personal collection.

For January, I chose one of my favorites ever, "New Farmhouse Style" by Terri John Woods, photographed by talented Kindra Clineff.

... I simply adore this book!! It's soooo me, I love Terri John Woods' style!

I always find so much inspiration among these pages... This is a book for both white lovers and color lovers. The author mixed up perfectly total white with splashes of vibrant colors, in his own fascinating farmouse nestled in Vermont.

So many of the things I love...

This chair looks like the one I re- made :)

The Christmas vignettes throughout the book are utterly inspiring! (My bears would be happy there, don't you think??;)).

On Seasonal Living.

Couldn't help but post my new header before January ends. For the beginning of the year, I chose shades of brown and white (you know I love) as my color scheme. I love to change it often, like I do like to often change things around my home... to fit the season, to fit my mood.

One of the most delightful things to me is living seasonally, sensing the rhythm of the year.

Enjoying the coziness of staying indoors in Winter, crackling fires to keep me company while I curl up on the sofa with a good book and a warm blanket. Comfort food, woolen scarves and sweaters, mittens, earth tones all around my home.

In Spring, I love to awake to warmer temperatures after the long, cold winter, sow and plant and just spend time in the garden with my doggie happily sniffing the air, observing bulbs sprouting up from the cold earth, the teeny tiny buds on the bare branches becoming lovely flowers. Pastel colors become my favorites then, and I usually begin to cook lighter, more colored meals and to refresh my home and my wardrobe as well.

Summer brings along nights of star gazing and lots of time to spend outdoors, just working, walking or relaxing, bright and cheery colors, light clothes and an everending array of yummy salads and fruit to eat. It's time to jam making, to preserve vegetables from the orchard or the farmer's market.

Autumn in the end, gives us a palette of wondrous oranges, reds, yellows and browns to deeply savor, together with a bountiful harvest. It's time to nest and plan ahead for the Holiday Season, that will spread cheer all around.

So, here's my new banner, if you haven't noticed yet I changed it...

My Teddy Bears in Print!!

Feeling muuch better than yesterday, I popped in today to show you this article I have in Prims this month! My Well Loved Teddy Bears made it to the glossy pages! Some serius happy dancing going on over here ;)

Due to postal issues (now become utterly annoying!), I haven't had the pleasure of seeing this in the flesh, as of yet :((( nor Somerset Life actually, where I have some other features. But I decided to share it now anyway.

I have had several publications in the yummy Stampington magazines in the past (I feel so blessed by them and the wonderful ladies that made that possible!), but this is surely one of the most delightful ever. Not only for the gorgeous photography, that truly makes me smile as the photographer captured each bear's personality so well (and made me smile even bigger with the three cute bottoms facing the camera!), but also because I really love teddies and having my own published in such a wonderful magazine, truly makes me happy and my heart skip a beat!... Thank you Jennifer, so very much, for this beautiful, sweet feeling!

I really hope I have all of my supplies and tools back soon, and my normal routine, to make more. There's something so special, to me, in a teddy bear... even if I'm grown up (or supposed to be, LOL)!

Update Jan 11: Many thanks for your concern about my health! I'm a bit better even if I'm very tired and don't feel in the mood of staying at my computer for too long. Hence, it will take me some more days to reply to the emails you kindly sent me. I will as soon as I feel better!

Also, it looks like this little journal of mine aroused some interest... so I am posting it again today, for those who haven't seen it.

I have already showed my Biz Gratitude Book here. Here's my progress so far...

I am using prints of my artworks, photographs from magazines I have been published in, scraps of vintage papers, wallpaper, etc. and including copies of checks, excerpts of my articles or blog posts, certificates, biz-related happenings, emails I received from people that appreciated my work or felt inspired, etc... anything that reminds me how grateful I am to be able to do all day and everyday what I love!

I caught a bad cold/flu/whatever with temperature that is blocking me in bed, besides making me feel miserable... :(( I have a pile of sketches ready to become paintings and several crafty projects calling my name! ... And I must stay here instead! Boohooo. Hope this goes away soon!

My Word for 2012 is...

It was only a few years ago that I started to choose a word to be the tune for the upcoming year. A single word to symbolize how I'd want my year to feel and look like, a word to work on, instead of resolutions that tend to be easily forgotten along the way. Chosing a single word help me focus and direct my energies. As usual, it happens I have a single one recurrently coming to mind when I start to think of a new year ahead, without considering too much... The one I'm supposed to choose just holds on, when I try to explore new entries... It seems it's the word that's "choosing me"! Probably we unconsciously know what we'd love the new year to bring in to our lives. So I sincerely send that word out there in the Universe for it to align its energy around that idea...

In 2009 'Simplify' chose me. In 2010 I really needed to 'Relax'. 2011 was cadenced by the word 'Expand'. Now on to 2012. Opening up to new things and new possibilities, flourishing, staying in a healthy condition, expressing in my life the qualities I see in flowers: grace, simplicity, beauty, inspiration... this is how I'd love to live the year ahead. May I, dear Universe?

Found Beauty #9- Hearts in the Mail!

You should know by now I do love hearts! ;)

So, when this package from my dear friend Deb arrived in the mail this morning, I just screamed with delight!

In case you're wondering, no, it isn't an early Valentine (even if it could be!) but a belated Christmas wish! The postal service here is usually very naughty at Christmas, and I end up opening many of my presents and cards in January/ February. Also in March at times! :(

Not only these hearts are perfect for my taste, but they also are exquisitely made. I can't stop staring at them, and while I'll save that with the Christmas ribbon for our tree, I have the red and white one hanging from the lamp on my working table, so I can see it (and smile) while I'm painting.

BIG News! And About Dreams Coming True...

Licensing: the owner of a copyright, trademark, intellectual property etc. (defined as 'licensor') allows under written contract, another party (the 'licensee') to make, use and sell copies of the original.

As we are starting over with a new year, I'd love to begin it unfolding some really wonderful, exciting new opportunities I've been given.

I told you there was so much in the works over here, and I was very busy. The fact is, I signed on with Linda Mc Donald Inc. (will tell you about how wonderful she is later on!), and this means I am ready to finally license my work!... So in the future, you might bump into a greeting card, journal, gift bag, bookmark, fabric line, travel mug etc. etc. with one of my designs onto it!

This is THE job I've been dreaming of taking up forever!!!!! Even before I even knew what 'licensing' was...

All happened like magic and very quickly... when I committed to stop blocking the energy of the Universe with my fears... when I said a loud, profound YES to what was calling me deeply. Even if I myself thought I was crazy to even think that could be possible. A simple italian girl, taking up a career as professional artist? With an american agent? Hey, people are going to laugh at you, I kept telling me.

On my Illustrated Discovery Journal, I already showed here on my blog before, these images kept making their appearance, though... I've been a fan of these women forever!! I remember my teen years when I collected money in my piggy bank to be able to buy books, cards and journals illustrated by Marjolein.

Looking at them right now, all seems so surreal to me... I knew, and I didn't at the same time.

It really took me quite a while, and totally hard work to finally let my fears go and feel I was ready.

And when I finally have been, after years (yep, years!) of spiritual work and with a recovered, greater faith, all happened like magic. The agent I signed with is THE agent I've been dreaming of having to represent me since the moment when I understood THIS was what I was meant to do, years ago. When I hadn't the barest idea of how-to, practically, but that small voice was continually whispering me to walk on this path. I cannot tell you how good I feel knowing that it meant to happen... and that this is God's plan for me.

Hence, what I can say from my humble experience is that DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE! So hold. on. to. yours!!!

My Look Back at 2011.

Hey there dear friends and readers! Cannot believe we're ready to say farewell to 2011, can you? This year, for me, has just flown by!

As usual, I like to write this 'look back' as my last post of the year.

In January, precisely on the very first day of the month, I finished Janvier, one of my Well Loved teddies, wearing the symbol of a new home for us in a new Country. My white bookcovers made their appearance in an article in Somerset Life, together with a few of my shots in the Miscellany section of the magazine.

In February, we moved from our home to a temporary address, and put all of our belongings in storage. My hubby gave me a new laptop to be able to survive the move, and I created for him pretty boxes as Valentines. My woolen scarves were published in Green Craft Magazine, and it has been the first time ever one of my creations was modeled!

In March I started to de- stress after more than 6 months of packaging and bureaucracy, slept an awful lot, and started to deeply feel the call to paint once again. I celebrated my birthday, and out of the blue found out I had to have surgery on my left hand in May.

In April, I had the great joy of having the transplanted peonies from my garden blooming!

My rosette bouquet, a photo-tutorial and other pictures were published in Somerset Life. April has definitely been growing time for me.

In May, I finally had surgery to fix Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in my left hand too, after I had it fixed in the other hand four years ago. May has been a time of rest and reflection, as I couldn't do a single thing and had to excercise my hand more than two hours per day.

My Bear Doll Pincushions were published in Art Doll Quarterly, and my denim bib necklace and cuff bracelet in Altered Couture (... and modeled once again!).

The month of June was full of beauty, flowers and colors. I found gorgeous treasures at the antique market and visited Lake Como, where I used to live.

In July I made good use of a vintage train case I had bought at the thrift shop, making a portable studio out of it. My coffee filter roses with a vintage patina were published in Somerset Life. For those interested in making them, a free tutorial is available on my blog here.

All over August, I continued to answer my call... One of my projects was in Green Craft Magazine once again, and I made inspiration stones. I had fun playing with my camera to capture beauty and colors around me.

I felt so very blessed that I needed to fix those feelings on canvas... didn't perceive any sort of lack in my life, but only Abundance.

In September, I finally shared the long- awaited tutorial to make coffee filter roses and another one to make felted acorns. I was published again (gosh, by now you'll be bored stiff to hear...;)), and enjoyed some little pleasures. I welcomed Autumn with a new look for my blog.

October was filled with wonderful colors outside and deep into my heart. I found one gorgeous, vintage, plaid suitcase that I love. My interview as a 'Pro' was published in Somerset Apprentice, and I painted several mixed media canvases. I felt really very inspired!

In November, my creative biz took flight (will tell you my news in my next post- sorry I had to write this farewell to 2011 first!) and my priorities shifted, but I found the time for going antiquing, cozying up in front of the fire and decorating. I roasted chestnuts and spent quality time with my family. Painted several new canvases with butterflies and affirmation girls. I made new woolen scarves, and made- over a thrifted mannequin. Finally had the chance to see my feature in Romantic Homes.

The month of December brought me joy joy joy, excitement and new inspiration, some Christmas cards from blog friends, and endless hours painting! I sewed a coat for Kim, started a Biz Gratitude Book, crocheted a bit and treated me to some yummy magazines. I shared my crafty snowmen at Design Dazzle, quick wrapping ideas, a recipe, and pretty, easy projects here and here. I also asked you about your 'creative' decorations, and you have been so nice to share your experience and thoughts with me/my readers... Thank you!

Thank you also for another wonderful year of blog friendship, help, support, tears, laughing, creativity, sweet comments and emails, inspiring ideas! Let's toast to another one, filled of joy, love and peace of mind for everyone!

It takes a creative soul to understand...

Have you ever witnessed funny reactions from guests or family members visiting your home, when they see your creative decorations, spaces or stuff?

I have ;) Shocked expressions indeed... someone even 'tried' to understand... but obviously thought I was completely crazy!!

Thank goodness for Blogland and you all, kindred spirits! What a creative girl would do without you???LOL. By the way, Johanna looks very happy in her festive attire!

Will pop in after Christmas to share my big news with you all, to prepare to say farewell to 2011 and greet 2012 with newly found inspiration and energy.

Cinnamon Palm Cookies.

This is my own recipe for palm cookies. I don't use salt and I like to add cinnamon when I prepare them for Christmas.

Ingredients:

One sheet puff pastry for about 15 cookies

Cinnamon

3 spoons each of Demerara sugar, white granulated sugar

Silver dragees (optional, these have been banned from California and somewhere considered inedible, but they're still sold and used here)

Directions:

Preheat the oven ( 180°C/350F).

Combine sugars, and spread evenly on the puff pastry. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Roll the pastry toward the centre, until you have two rolls meeting in the very centre of the dough rectangle. Cut into slices.

Sprinkle with granulated sugar and silver dragees (please note that these are very hard, so not suitable for elderly people or young children).

Bake until caramelized (about 15 minutes in my oven, but it depends. Check them often).

Make your own Wreaths!

I had never thought of making my own wreaths, until a few days ago, when Kim and I were strolling happily around the neighborhood, and I happened to lay my eyes on fabulous twigs of virginia creeper that grows abundantly along the boundary of an abandoned allotment... now free from the vibrant red foliage and visible in all of their potential ;)

Needless to say I harvested a good deal...

... and when at home, I started to twist and wrap them around each other to create a round shape. You can even use silver birch twigs, or anything flexible.

To secure, wedge the loose end among the twisted twigs. No glue or wire are necessary.

Really easy peasy and super quick! In matter of seconds I had my wreath... (See the chest of drawers? It's one of my WIPs! A garbage find, to be exact (wink wink)! It was in very poor conditions but now it's fixed. Look at those knobs. My, it's going to be splendid after the beauty treatment I have in mind! Will show the before and after when done).

You can decorate your wreath as you like- isn't this a cute, last- minute, inexpensive thought for a neighbor or a special touch to top your gifts with?

There is something beautiful in receiving Christmas cards... one of the most delightful simple pleasures of the Season! Those colored envelopes you recognize at first sight in the mailbox... Someone thought of YOU at this special time of year and took the time to send along their words of friendship and love!

When they are glittered and artistically wrapped in ribbon (as this one I have just received from a friend) well, delight is more than doubled.

5 Quick Gift-Wrapping Ideas.

Just popped in to say hello!

I thought I'd show a few simple and creative ideas to wrap up your presents in seconds, if you haven't yet.

1. Newspaper, Burlap and Twine:

Wrap up the present in newspaper, burlap ribbon and twine, hot glue pinecones down, add a simple coordinated tag, and you're done!

Check my article "Wrapped Up in the News" in the upcoming issue of Somerset Life for more ideas to gift-wrap using newspaper.

2. Fabric and Scrap Wreaths:

Use fabric instead of paper, and top with a little wreath made with wool and fabric leftovers.

3. Sheet Music (or ledger or book paper) and Ribbon Roses:

Cover a box entirely or wrap- up your gift in old paper. Then top with a gorgeous ribbon rose (my free tutorial here). Make a Christmas tag instead of the Paris-inspired one shown above.

4. Vintage Pattern Paper, Doily and Glittered Birdie:

As easy as A, B, C! Use Divine Twine in a color of your choice and add a rusty, old key and a glittered bird. A fresh fir tree twig would be a great, and divinely scented, addition.

5. Pattern Paper, Doily and Wish Ticket:

Add greenery or/and a bell for a Christmas-sy touch.

Christmas Snowmen.

Hello everyone!

Toni over at Design Dazzle gave me permission to share this post I wrote for 100 Ideas of Christmas Wonderful here on my blog, too.

To make my snowmen, I used crumpled tissue paper, glue and then gesso, to make the styrofoam balls look like actual papier machè (a technique of my own).

They have funny sheet music hats, embellished with vintage lace, wool and remnants of all kind, plus sweet rusty snowflakes and bells. I adooore that cheery jingle jingle!

To make the hats, just adhere sheet music on cardboard with paper glue, cut out a triangle, make a cone, and staple it to secure on the rear. Then finish off with lace, remnants etc and put on the head of your snowmen using hot glue.

To make these chaps perfectly wintr-y, I also incorporated wool yarn and scraps of mohair left from my handmade bears into their collars and to finish the hats off.

My snowmen's noses are made with little tree branches, sharpened and inserted in the styrofoam balls. You can add one or two bigger ones under the head to create the bodies, and insert bare branches as arms. Paint happy faces with acrylics and finally, a generous sprinkle of clear glitter to make them sparkle!

... And voilà! Ready to spread Christmas cheer!!

I share with many of you the love for books. Not only those torn and worn with tattered pages...;) As I had announced last year, I wanted to start to show you some of those I have on my bookshelves, so they might be of inspiration for you too, as they are for me. Almost the totality of them are second hand books, I purchased on Amazon over the years.

I'm starting today with this, from the editors of Country Living (US Edition), which truly is one of my favorites!

If you love the style of Terry John Woods as I do, you could easily recognize some of the pictures here, taken from his own book "New Farmhouse Style", I'll show next month.

At the Moment I am...

1. LOVING:

A very simple yet meaningful Holiday Season, with a few decorations only, made of greenery, candles and natural elements.

2. READING:

My very favorite magazines and Christmas books. Also, I'm writing Santa to please consider letting me find a home with a living room like that, and I will be a very good girl forever and ever!:)

3. ANTICIPATING:

The Winter issue of Somerset Life, where I'll have some of my work published (among which my Vintage Portable Studio!), and Prims, for the very same reason! They'll hit newstands on January, 1st, 2012.

4. CROCHETING:

A cowl in these wonderul shades of blue! Yes, I know I shouldn't do that, but I'm always wearing my brace and crochet only a little bit at a time! Can't wait to wear it! I love love love cowls (and scarves, turtle necks, etc. ).

5. CREATING:

A 'Biz Gratitude Book'. I've so much to be grateful, and I want to always remember how blessed I am to be able to do what I love! I'm using remnants of papers, photographs of my published works and artworks, and incorporating all is meaningful to me job wise. This journal is the evolution of my Eco- chic journals I created a couple of years ago (gosh, time flies!) and have been published in Green Craft Magazine in 2010 too.

6. STOPPING:

Making Christmas ornaments. I had started last August making these yarn balls and other 'warm' ornies, but I then realized there was no room here for a Christmas tree. I'll finish them for next year!

7. SEWING:

A waterproof trench for Kim, completely lined in tartan. I found this soft and stylish couture fabric at the market, sold as remnants, for a song. I'm going to add a removable hood too... Kim's really LOVING it!

8. SAVORING:

A warm blanket my Grandmother made with Granny's squares, and coffee with whipped cream... or whipped cream with coffee? :)

My Priorities Have Shifted...

The other day, while I was doing a much needed clean- up on my dashboard, I accidentally deleted one of my latest posts. As I had no time at all to assemble it again, that brought to my attention the fact that I haven't shared here yet a substantial shift of my priorities.

My creative biz has shifted to a "higher energy level" (I'll tell you more another time), so to speak, and so did my priorities. I finally felt I was ready to say a loud, big YES to what is calling me deeply. Since, much to my disappointment, I can't do it all, I now dedicate all of my energies and time to produce new, fresh art... (creating and photographing as I go).

Painting has always represented such a vital part of my being, since I was a little girl, that I cannot ignore it anymore. After it has been my greatest love (and everyday activity, with one medium or another) for 30 years, at a certain point of my life I started to doubt, and was pulled in many other directions. But my 'call' for painting was much stronger. My 'mission' in life started to become clearer and clearer to me.

Other big changes are awaiting me in the near future (geographical, cultural, organizational, emotional) and I must simplify my life. I've dedicated a tremendous amount of time to my blog over the past years, and that certainly has helped me to build up community. Hence the fact my blog's very dear to my heart. Exactly like you all are.

But in this transition of my life, I must simplify as much as I can, to stay sane and serene (as it greatly reflects on my work). I don't know which direction my blog will take, how frequent my posts will be, but it's my firm intention to stay open- minded and true to my heart.

This move, with all of its problems and delays, has certainly given me a wonderful gift. I've had much time to pay attention to my inner voice, to finally be able to listen, to cultivate my passion and grow.

No doubt I'll continue updating my blog, to create and share, also tutorials when I find some spare time... and I will try my best to return your kind visits and nice words of support. My sincere apologies in advance if I cannot. I prefer to offer to you all some new contents and inspiration here than to visit only a few of you (... again, I can't do it all!). You are always very welcome to drop me an email if you have something to ask or tell me. I always answer to personal emails (but please allow me some time to). Unfortunately I doubt I'll join the weekly parties anymore... thanks to the nice ladies that kindly invited me, I'm sorry not to be able to join you. But I'll surely visit when I can.

Some of you already know that I suffer from chronic migraines with vomit, and unfortunately keeping the same position with my neck all day long doesn't help. I must go out and walk more, relax more, when I have time. I need to work on my well- being... I know that my health will improve if I put my mind to it and pay more attention to my body. Like now. I have been sitting here at the computer for too long! ... Also, my watercolor box is calling my name. L.O.U.D.

Aren't these children and puppy adorable?

The backs are often as stunning as the fronts!

... Linen galore! Pillow cases, face cloths, hand towels, nightgowns, bedlinen...

and some antique bloomers too!! Such amazing pieces...and I didn't spend a fortune to have them. The lady at the antique market told me no one wants these things anymore! ... Are you kiddin' me??? I. want. them. all!!! :)

I plan on actually using the face cloths (they're way too gorgeous to cut!) and some of the other pieces will become adorable doll clothes, hearts, bookcovers and pillows similar to these below I have previously made, that I love to scatter all around my home. Plus a 'secret' project I' ll share when I manage to make it :)

These pillow covers were a gift, they have our initials... MG. I like to keep many cushions on our bed, on a rigorously white duvet cover/ bedspread. Nothing is as charming, romantic and elegant as white on white, I think.

Since I Have a New Sewing Machine...

... I must put it to good use!:)

I really started itching to do some sewing... and because of the move, I haven't my sewing machine with me. My Mom doesn't sew, and for her needs my Grandmother's one, not electric, is enough. But it looks like I'm completely clumsy when using it. I actually love her vintage charm, but when it comes to pedal, I really cannot do that!:(

So when I spotted a Singer (we've always used Singers in our family) at the supermarket, I didn't give it a second thought and brought it home for a song. In the end, instead of reducing the amount of my stuff, I will have two sewing machines- one for fabric, the other one for my mixed media projects, to sew on materials different from fabric. Have I ever mentioned that my first sewing machine ever (my MIL had given to me) exploded right in front of my face???? I think I was so willing to learn, that the engine overheated :) Fortunately, I came out unhurt (but scared to death for sure!).

The one that I have in storage at the moment is a very basic model, and so is this second one I have just purchased, except for the additional 'buttonhole maker' which surely is a treat. I don't need (nor want) anything electronic... In my humble opinion, super-techno equipments aren't a must to be able to do nice things. Passion, love, care and excercise can do wonders!

Below you can see my first creation with my new toy. I wanted to give a special book to a dear friend, and couldn't help making a little additional treat for her...

A bookcover made out of a chic, striped French linen, embellished with vintage crocheted lace and finished off with vintage MOP buttons. I used twine instead of ribbon to give a French feel to it. Love how it turned out.

Simple Abundance has a special meaning for me, it helped me start my path towards intentional, authentic living and self-discovery... and it's beautiful when I can share its message with someone dear to me.

As you can see, I also purchased polka- dotted linen, and of course, I will make more of these, for some of my books that are still in need of a cover.

Fall Days.

Hi all! Hope you're enjoying Fall as much as I am.

This year I kept my decor very simple- a single pumpkin, laid on a gorgeous primitive quilt I purchased from Isabelle (that was parting with it to tidy up her little cottage) on my plaid vintage suitcase, and a little bunch of mums.

The mums match the dark red of the blocks beautifully...

I love Autumn for that sweet sense of home it evokes... I like gazing at the flames, happily crackling in the fireplace... with a blanket on my knees, my dog snoring at my feet and a good book or journal... waiting to savor the roasted chestnuts!

I love the cooler temperatures, and to finally be able to wear my all-shades-of-cream woolen sweaters...

Kim is enjoying Fall as well... In my spare time, I am sewing her a waterproof coat lined with tartan. She was modeling some different fabrics when I took this photo! I even managed to bake (my version of) pumpkin pie...

Mannequin Makeover and Some New Scarves!

... Introducing Johanna!! (Named after my dear Granny, from whom I inherited my passion for sewing).

I've been on the lookout for a mannequin for such a long time! And finally, last month, I found her... abandoned in a gloomy (and not that clean!) corner of a thrift store, in dire need of a makeover! She's actually a torso, but I love her anyway!

It took me awhile to decide which was the look I wanted to convey, and in the end I opted for old book pages, to conphere her a very neutral look, to be paired with anything I might want her to model. After hours of patient glueing, here she is, already in a Winter mood, sporting one of my newest woolen scarves/necklaces, I managed to make in the latest few days, too!

This one in a chic combination of cream and cocoa wool... sooo soft and warm!

The second one in two different shades of gray, embellished by two handmade organza flowers, adorned by beads.

Painting Makes Me Happy!

... You already knew that... and I knew too, down in my heart! What's incredible is that we often tend to ignore the inner voice that keeps telling us what we're meant to do...

These brand- new paintings are part of a new-born collection where I played with pale colors over a collage of vintage and antique papers... totally in LOVE with the result!

I painted this piece to help me in my journey toward a helthier life... I've been struggling with my weight for my entire life, and only now I've realized it's just my mind and attitude towards my body I have to change... and I committed to.

Hi there dear friends...

I'm a bit under the weather and also very busy at the moment, and I have no time for a more structured post. So, just to say hello after some days of silence, here are a few new paintings for you to enjoy.

They are part of a collection where I used a single palette of colors and similar papers (including family papers with the names of my ancestors)... By the way, have you recognized that with tiny red flowers? Didn't you think I'd throw it away, huh?? ;)

Thanks also for all the wonderful support about my art through your emails. I've been an artist all my life, but only now have realized the healing power of art... how much I need it in my life... Hope it brings you joy, inspiration and healing too. It looks like this move (with all its problems, delays and 'downs') was exactly what I needed to become more intentional and grow in my art, as well as in grace.

The Journey Toward Your Dreams Begins Today.

I'm happy to tell you I've finally started to share my art. I've been pampering it for years, I've been very protective towards my 'baby' and now I feel ready to share it with the world :)

Several new artworks have been created, finished, scanned and registered, and are ready to be released. I will show them from time to time, adding new prints to my brand- new art shop or just use them to accompany my words here on my online journal. I'm giving myself permission to do all the steps at my own pace... to deeply savor the moment... It has been in my heart and mind for so long, that I am a bit emotional right now.

I'm also giving my blog permission to evolve. I don't want to split subjects into different blogs, as I am one, even if with many and disparate interests. My art will be here as well too. One place only where to find me and see what I'm up to.

I believe there's no better painting than the one above to accompany this post. After all, the journey toward my dreams begins today.

Hello friends and readers, ... I'm so doing the happy dance and pinching myself in disbelief! :)) For this, I owe a HUGE thank you to Editor Jana Holstein, that a few months ago asked me to be interviewed for the 'From the Pros' section of Somerset Apprentice. Jana and I had already worked together and I can tell you she's a sweet, kind and sunny lady... could I say anything but 'Sure!'?? I'm among a bunch of well-known and talented artists, so you bet I'm flattered and honored!

At the time when I had to write my interview, I was in the middle of an inner struggle and a period of moodiness after my operation, so I didn't give my best, I'm afraid. Reading it after some months, though, I'm happy with it, even if I feel the 'favorite medium' part is not complete. Apart from being a 'vintage' lover, I also have a passion for recycled and 'green' elements to use in my creations (string, kraft paper, jute, burlap, corrugated cardboard, etc.), tartans and wool of any kind.

It was very difficult to answer the questions because as you know, I'm a very versatile artist and it was hard to choose what to share... I'm a watercolor artist, a mixed- media artist, a photographer and I craft in- between. Moreover, I'm known on the Stampington publications mainly for my crafts and photographs, as I've not gone public with my art yet. In the end, I decided to let all the messy thoughts I had in that moment in my head, and just enjoy this opportunity. Here you can see the result of my efforts in print. I must say I'd choose different pictures to describe my work now... but surely in THAT moment I did my very best and I am proud I did accept the challenge and say 'yes' instead of an easier 'sorry I can't'.

Tutorial: Coffee Filter Roses.

Romantic, eye- catching, beautiful, inexpensive, easy-to-make, great as favors and as tokens of love, friendship or appreciation...

I'm so very happy with this creation of mine that was in the previous issue of Somerset Life.

Thank you to all the lovely ladies that sent me sweet notes about them!! And sorry if I couldn't share this tutorial earlier on my blog.

OK, let's start with gathering the supplies needed. Nothing outside the ordinary tools and materials you have at home.

For one rose you'll need:

- coffee filters (about 15)

- scissors

- a pencil

- normal sewing thread

- coffee

- a cup

- cinnamon, spices

- tin foil

- oven

- paper adhesive tape

- stripes of cotton

- ribbons, button

- a wooden stick for the stem

- a bbq stick

- tags, clothespins, rubber stamps (all optional)

1. Start tracing the petals on the coffee filters, with a pencil, then cut them out. I used the patterns available on Martha Stewart's website here:

2. Start assembling the rose, simply using thread to keep the bottoms of the petals together. Do not cut it from the spool until you're finished. This is my own method, you could also use florist's tape instead of thread.

Use the smallest petals first, and then proceed assembling the bigger ones, always turning your 'bud' and making a knot every now and then as you proceed.

3. When you're happy with the size of your rose, cut the thread and secure with three or four knots.

4. To age the rose, soak it in a cold mixture of coffee, cinnamon and other ingredients that stain, you can easily find in your kitchen. Just experiment to find the 'magic recipe' that works for you! It might be necessary to wash a bit of the color off, for a more natural look.

Then put the rose on an oven pan covered in tin foil (to not damage it), and sprinkle with cinnamon.

5. Bake at medium heat for about 15 minutes. Always, always keep an eye on your work when it's in the oven!

6. With adhesive paper tape, attach the rose on a common wooden stick. Twist the tape very firmly.

7. With a stripe of ripped fabric, cover completely the wooden stick, as showed. No glue is necessary.

8. With the help of a skewer stick, turn the edges of the petals downwards, to conphere a natural look to the flower.

9. Finish the rose off with a bow made of ribbons, stripes of cotton, ... and a handsewn button.

Add a tag if you want, with a handwritten or stamped sentiment on.

Dried Flowers.

I've always loved dried flowers... they add a touch of old- fashioned beauty to my home, and help preserve the scent and colors of Summer for Winter enjoyment.

I made this arrangement for my happy Mom this year :) with the hydrangeas from my aunt and peonies my Mom gave me when I had surgery in May.

You can see the vintage suitcase I lined with old book pages too... I'm very happy with it as storage for my mixed media canvases.

To dry my flowers, I use the 'classic' method of hanging them upside down in a not-so-bright and most importantly not humid, spot of my home. Love the result.

And you? Do you like dried flowers?

Inspired, Inspired (... With One Palette).

There's very little you can do when you're inspired...

You can't resist... you just have to follow your Muse, and do what your inner voice is telling you. No matter what other people expect from you... or what you thought you were meant to do.

... I am spreading my wings, enjoying the flight, and feeling a deep joy following the path meant just for me! I wanted to share this with you, today!

Tutorial: Felted Acorns.

As promised, here's the first of my new crafty tutorials! Felted acorns... They are so sweet, arent' they? And just perfect for Fall or Winter decor.

The technique I am going to explain is the one I use, with my own personal 'touch' (like using a cheese grater! Hehe)... no idea if someone else makes these differently, this is the way I make them.

Tools and Materials:

Some people make use of a single needle, but I strongly suggest to use multiple needles in a pen tool!

Be extra careful when using this tool, because needles have 'barbs' that are responsible for the felting of the wool. If you don't feel comfortable in holding the acorn with your hand, use a fork or pliers to hold it.

Step 1: Rolling the wool in your hands, make a ball.

Step 2: Place your acorn-to-be on the felting mat and start hitting it with the needles. Always wear a brace when you do ripetitive movements with your hands!!!! I will never tire of saying that. It helps preventing the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Here you can see the acorns in different stages of the process.

Now ready to further felt. Your acorns are already felted, this step just imparts a smoother look.

Step 6: Soak the acorn in warm/hot water. The following steps should be done at the sink (I did them on a plastic plate for shooting reasons).

Step 7: Soap your hands as well as the acorn, and start to roll it in your hands and on the grater. Don't apply too much pression, be gentle!

Final steps: Rinse out the excess of soap, wipe in a clean towel, and let the acorns dry.

Then hot glue their original cap, holding it tight for a few seconds.

Good Readings and Published Again!

Yesterday I took a little break from work... just to relax for a while with some of my favorite readings.

I had just received my copy of Somerset Holidays and Celebrations, where I have an article about my cotton sachets, especially created for the magazine with a Valentine's Day theme. You can sneak a peek in my 'Craft' page in the top bar. Thank you so very much to Jennifer for making this possible! I love love love this annual publication, and it's such a honor to be included again.

I prepared yummy cucumber sandwiches (... I adore them, much to my italian family's disbelief! It must be my English soul ;)) and hot tea to be sipped quietely. I used my new red polka dotted and striped set I have mentioned before (so I have the chance to show you the red dishes too). It makes my food taste even better!

The new Cath Kidston catalogue arrived too...

Have you spotted the new Fall Collection? I honestly don't like indiscriminately all by CK, but truly I am in love with their oilcloth bags! I find the tartan ones very stilish, and love these in autumnal colors. So me.

This one (but in smaller size) is on my wish list for my Spring/Summer walks with Kim... ;) is someone hearing out there? Hehe.

... Sandwiches and tea all gone! Happy belly :) ... Off to work again! I have many things boiling in my cauldron at the moment... better to go instead of chatting!

... Welcome Autumn and a New Look!

Between one thing and another on my busy schedule of the moment, I thought to give my blog not only a new header inspired by the season, but a new fresh look as well.

I've kept it plain and white, so 'me', but made it bigger, so that my pictures can 'breathe'. The text is bigger too and different in color from the former version, and hopefully you can read it better.

For my banner, I've chosen pictures that remind me of the coziness of this blessed season, like this centerpiece I made with roses and gilded pumpkins...

... the wamth of tartans and wool...

... and the pleasure of nesting and crafting for the upcoming Holiday Season.

I wanted to include my favorite quote too, in the form of this mixed media painting I have finished recently:

Goodbye Summer...

On the last day of August, I thought I'd make a collage to sum up what I did this Summer.

1. Enjoyed lots of fresh flowers, from the farmers market, supermarket or given me, as I have no garden at the moment;

2. washed all of my linens, doilies and antique lace, in order to have them ready and lavender-smelling when I have to use them;

3. ate comfort food but then realized I had to choose positive thinking instead;

4. had my coffee filter roses published in Somerset Life (thanks again, Christen!);

5. assembled a portable studio in a vintage train case (absolutely love it!);

6. had my eco- chic stationery published in Green Craft Magazine (thanks Amanda and Jennifer!)

7. felt free;

8. had fun with fabric tape;

9. answered my 'calling' and expanded my art portfolios;

10. made lavender bundles for the cold season ahead;

11. explored the surroundings together with my dear ones;

12. created inspiration stones.

I must tell you I thoroughly enjoyed summer 2011, even if with its ups and downs! Hope you had a nice one, too.

Now... waiting for Autumn, my favorite Season!... Yippee!!

During my recovery after surgery, I've joined Pinterest, after discovering by chance I had been pinned. By the way, maybe you've been too without even knowing! You can check, just putting your blog name, instead of mine, in this link:

For those of you not familiar with Pinterest, the concept is really simple: virtually 'pin' on inspiration boards what you like around the Internet! It's a kind of visual book, like those many of us make with clippings from magazines.

I like it, because it pins images and links, so you can always keep track of something interesting you had seen before. Of course, I have no intention to abandon my inspiration books made of 'real clippings', to curl up with during the cold months or when I do need a little treat, but my Pinterest boards are quite a nice addition to them!

I have met several friends and bloggers there, and our boards are a fun way to know each other more, too.

If you want to join, request an invite on the main page (I received reply and a link to jump on board within 5 minutes, but I know some people waited nearly a week!).

... I must warn you, though... it's addictive!;)

At the Moment I am...

1. FEELING:

Really blessed, even if at times I may not notice. Sometimes I complain that I don't have a nest for my husband, doggie and I, that our stuff is stored away, etc. But when I look at my life from another perspective, then I am at peace. I have painted this mixed media a few days ago... I believe it sums up how I'm feeling right now just perfectly.

2. ANSWERING:

My 'calling'. I've always been an artist, but now I have decided to say a loud, clear YES to what is calling me! And I'm working accordingly. I am in the process of having a new website designed, hope things won't take too long, but I'm taking one step at a time. I'm practicing self- compassion and giving myself permission. Answering this call involved a great work on myself, on my fears, my committment... my heart and mind are clear now, and I seem to have endless energy. Hope this lasts!

3. EXPANDING:

My art+ photo portfolios. Do you remember my word for 2011 was 'EXPAND'?

4. STARING:

At this amazing 'just because' gift I received from my husband! An incredible box of 120 Caran d'Ache Supracolor!! I have never had such a large assortment of water- soluble artist crayons! What I'm using at the moment are spared crayons of the same brand I keep in a chocolate box... from my school years... This gift is fabulous- now when will I have the courage to use them???? :)

5. ART-JOURNALING:

... Or at least let's say I'm trying! I love painting backgrounds, like these, but when it comes to actual journaling, I feel turned down as I don't know where to start from (and maybe I'm fearful of putting my heart + soul on paper too). These pages are meant to be filled with my innermost thoughts and feelings... let's see.

6. POSTPONING:

I meant to keep you updated on the move, but things have been everchanging in the latest months, and I had no way to tell you something certain.

Now we have decided to postpone the move to the new year, because my husband's job is absorbing all his energies right now, and we have so many things to plan. Maybe we will be able to organize ourselves a bit more (and have time to plan!) going on a mini vacation in Autumn, as we haven't taken a single day off this summer (Saturdays and Sundays included!:-O)

7. EXPLORING:

The surroundings, and collecting natural elements (stones, foliage, flowers, etc). Can you believe I picked up the first horse chestnuts (from Aesculus hippocastanum) last week? Such an odd Summer this one! I have worn woolen sweaters in July, and now we are in the middle of a horrible heat wave that's melting us... and there are already horse chestnuts! In August!!

By the way, for those of you who kindly asked, my left hand is doing well. Not able to raise weights, yet, but I'm working on that.

8. ENJOYING:

... our brand new polka- dotted mugs (bought them in blue and red)! Isn't this cute?

9. STOPPING:

... eating Nutella! I'm lucky that I'm really NOT a chocolate person, but I've experienced moodiness after my surgery, and I did this no-no!! I usually pay attention to what I eat, if it is healthy, organic, not fat, etc. Chocolate is also soo baaaaad for my weight!

10. LAUGHING:

These pics of Kim playing with her brand new pig my Mom has brought home for her are not perfect, but they are so cute that I had to share with you!!!!

Found Beauty #4, Vintage Treasures and French- inspired Tags.

Hello there, friends!

You know I love to capture beauty around me through my lens and the little things and moments that make me happy! And then share them with you...

This vintage camera is a family heirloom, as it belonged to my Grandfather (on my dad's side)...

It's not a precious camera, as money was tight and that was the only thing my Grandfather, with seven children, could afford. It's precious to my eyes, though... I actually didn't mean to take good pictures, to style professionally... What truly meant was to capture the magic of this object and my feelings, being able to hold it in my hands for the first time, observing each and every detail of it, smelling the vintage leather, bringing back memories. Just enjoying the moment.

The page I used as background in my little photo- shoot is one map of France from my vintage atlas, I found back in June at the flea market. And just in case you're wondering, I still haven't had the heart to cut it!! However, I have found another cheaper one for my paintings and creations :)

I also have been playing with the fabric tape I showed you some posts ago, making super fast and easy French- inspired tags. This project took me less than ten minutes.

I had no time to stain all of my tags, so I used plain tags, as they came out of the package (and only one I had stained before, so you can appreciate the difference). I usually love to stain paper before adding embellishments, but I must say I like the way the plain ones came out.

They are lovely to use for gift wrapping and even for display. See, I added one to my portable studio!

How did I make them? Just stamping down on the tag with my awesome Cavallini rubber stamps, then adding a dried lavender flower attached with a strip of fabric tape.

I also used one of them to add a touch of frivolity to my fabulous find of last week!! Vintage trunks and suitcases are at the top of my 'wish list' when I go antiquing and thrifting. During this transition in my life, without a house of my own, they are super useful to store my stuff too. Found these in my favorite thrift shop, and they were 50% off (so I REALLY made a great deal!). I bought these two and also a vintage cardboard suitcase.

My Dad had to help me fixing them a bit (... I'm cherishing these moments!), and then I spent endless hours lining them with book pages... but it was worth it!

Inspiration Stones.

Inspiration stones are stones with inspiring, positive statements or words written or engraved on them. Using positive affirmations and inspiring words, we can reinforce our positive thinking, reach goals, focus on important things, and even counteract the negative thoughts that may stream through our minds, sometimes unconsciously.

I've always liked the idea of inspiration stones, for me or to give as meaningful gifts. There is a huge variety of ready made ones, but if your budget doesn't allow you to purchase them, or you are a DIY kind of person as I am, you can easily make your own. Without breaking the bank and having much fun!

Yesterday, my hubby and I gave ourselves quality time together in the park, and while enjoying those special moments, we collected rocks to be transformed into inspiration stones.

When it was time to write down something on them, I just sat down quietely and let my thoughts flow freely... these statements and words came to mind, and I just recorded them onto the stones. No pressure to make them perfect, I was just enjoying the process.

There are many ways you can embellish your stones, I opted for a simple, white coat of gesso and a black felt- tip pen to write on them. I then sealed the writing with transparent spray paint. Easy peasy. But you can choose to make yours colored, with drawings, collaged, and on and on. Just play.

I so loved making these that I'm planning to make more, maybe with stones picked when we'll visit places we love, during relaxing or joyful moments etc. I believe that adds to the inspiration!

In Green Craft Magazine.

I always try to go green as much as possible... recyclying, upcycling, saving water and energy, looking carefully at what I buy, etc... so whenever I'm published in Green Craft Magazine, my delight is doubled! I hope I can inspire other people to go green, even in the simplest of things!

Found Beauty #3- Pink Rosary.

For my Found Beauty post, this weekend I'm sharing this pink rosary, belonged to my husband's Grandmother, that I found in one of his drawers while I was packing our stuff before leaving our home, back in February. Needless to say, my hubby was happy to give it to me!

It was a hard time for me when I found it, and it's serendipitous that it has found the way to me once again now, when things are not going as planned and I need some comfort. I don't want my dear blogging friends to concern about me... let's say this moment of my life is helping me grow in grace, and I'm working to become a 'better me'.

To further lift my spirit (apart from eating Nutella), I arranged a bouquet with the hydrangeas I was given by my aunt, simply covering the stalks with burlap. Arranging flowers truly makes me happy!

Have a glorious, pink weekend everyone! Let's make the most of it.

Gifts in the Mail!

I have met the most wonderful friends in Blogland!

Besides being supportive and helpful, being sweet, being kind, being fun, we also exchange opinions, secrets and little gifts every now and then! It might sound strange to non- bloggers, but I can assure the bonds you create in Blogland can be strong and fulfilling, often even stronger than in 'real life'.

Karriann and I were partnered for a Valentine Swap (my first and last) in 2008, and have immediately become very good friends. We like to surprise each other with a few tokens of friendship sometimes, that's why a parcel filled with goodies arrived at my doorstep last week.

Karriann is very talented in designing and making jewelry, and I am the proud owner of several of her pieces. Absolutely LOVE this simple Nest Necklace. Pearls... nest... a little birdie. Perfect.

And when I opened a little parcel wrapped in handmade paper, I just squealed with delight! Into a cute patchwork bag that Karriann sewed especially for me (I appreciate her efforts even more because she said she' s a beginner, and tried to make one just because she knew I like things like that!), she slipped a travel watercolor box, and a bundle of watercolor paper. A small 'take- along'... Isn't this thoughtful?

And she also surprised me with a little collage with a pic of me as a little girl! I adore the writing... "Her heart soars, and wonder never leaves her".

The old thread spool will be useful to store lace in my studio.

She also sent along a notebook, a beautiful book and magazines, to curl up and relax with during the long summers evenings. Thank you dear friend xoxo

I feel very blessed to have made such wonderful, thoughtful friends thanks to my blog! Everything was done especially for me... what a wonderful feeling, that someone REALLY thinks of YOU and cares, when assembling a gift! It was so rare before being a blogger (and I must confess, it was something I have lacked tremendously and suffered for, in the past).

My Vintage Portable Studio.

A while back, while thrifting, I bumped into this genuine leather vintage train case... and it definitely was love at first sight!! You know, I almost didn't buy it!! We have to move again and having a lot of stuff to bring along with us (among which clothes, home essentials, plants (!), some pieces of furniture that haven't been stored, Kim, etc), I thought it was such a foolish idea! My stuff has increased fourfold since I'm here at my parents' (... no idea how!).

But I have such a thing for vintage luggage, and I already own some lovely pieces I've collected over the years. I recently realized that I cannot gather stuff only because I like it, and all my buys must also be useful. Hence the idea of a portable studio. I've seen some around Blogland, and it's lovely to now have my own, too.

What won me over, besides the genuine leather and its warm color, was the unusual lid. Opening in the half and with one handle on each part, it definitely allows to crazily stuff the case, without being concerned too much about its weight ;)

Just in case anyone is interested, I paid 8 euros/£7/$11,50 for this vintage beauty (some of my readers like to compare prices around the world). And the yummy millinery flower is actually the embellishment of a vintage circlet hat.

Would you like to sneak a peek inside? (... What a ridiculous question! Of course you want!! LOL).

As I couldn't put everything I use in here, I restricted myself to some small 'essentials' to create something pretty with.

In detail, you can see some scrumptious wrinkled seam binding I have treated myself to from this wonderful Etsy shop: Prairie Bird Boutique. Patsy, the shop owner, surely put love and care into making these lovely bundles! They are perfect for photo styling, too!

Some rolls of fabric tape...

... wooden hearts and tiny clothespins, heart pins, tags, baker's twine...

... odd or broken earrings (these, not wearable anymore, belonged to my Mom)...

... Italian Coccoina glue, wish tickets, dried lavender flowers...

... glitter...

... some rubber stamps and ink pads...

... a few old pictures, scissors and a couple of 'devastated' books! I would have seen this with different eyes some time ago- being a lover of books! I now see these old pages intended for the bin as 'art supplies'...

I really had fun putting my portable studio together- now off to play!

Fabric Tape and Embellished Correspondence.

Have you heard of fabric tape?

It's one of the hottest supplies right now in the craft world! I have spotted so many packages prettified with it around the internet, that finally decided to purchase some... and I'm officially in LOVE!!

You can find it in many yummy colors and patterns, and it has so many creative uses!

As for now, I used it to embellish my correspondence...

It is real fabric with an adhesive back... so you just have to cut it to the desired length and apply wherever you want!

Attach a stripe to a plain cardboard, add a sentiment, and let it spread some cheer among your dearest ones! You can also embellish your envelope, so the mailman will be happy too ;)
